Presentation

This interview process was quite disappointing. I suspect this company keeps job requisitions open hoping to steal ideas from candidate presentations without intending to hire. They ask for design details, BOMs, drawings, etc., which seems very suspicious. Be aware.

The recruiter reached out on LinkedIn for an initial chat about the company and their needs. While I initially felt the role wasn't a perfect career fit, the recruiter highlighted the company culture and opportunity, making a compelling case without being overbearing. This positive interaction gave me a good impression of the company. I then had 1:1 interviews via Skype/Zoom with the hiring manager, followed by more meetings with her, reinforcing my feeling that this company genuinely values its employees and candidates. The process concluded with two panel interviews involving my potential direct reports and peers, and a final meeting with the President and COO. The entire interview cycle was well-paced, allowing adequate preparation time, and the recruiter maintained consistent communication. Although Mizuho OSI might not be the most technologically advanced company I've encountered, their people and effective use of technology made this a truly memorable experience.

Behavioral Technical

The first step was a recruiter call, but the recruiter didn't seem to know much about marketing interviews. Then, a phone interview with the Director of Marketing. After that, I had an in-person interview with the Director of Marketing, the Product Marketing Managers, and the Marketing Analyst. It was a bit odd, everyone was dressed very formally, like it was an old-school company, even though it's a small place in Union City. They asked basic questions, and honestly, none of them seemed to really know marketing. The Director of Marketing kept forgetting what he was asking, just saying 'What else?' after I answered. The whole vibe was negative; they seemed tired and angry, and no one showed any excitement about the company. It felt like they didn't want to be there interviewing candidates.

Behavioral Presentation

The HR manager was great, very personable, although took a lot of notes. I met with the marketing director who mentioned being ex-military. Everyone was in business attire, reminding me of old school IBM. It took three weeks to get to round 3, a presentation where they wanted creative ideas and my processes/tools for planning. I presented to the manager and three product managers. It was tense and uncomfortable, with no smiles and people seeming unhappy. I was already considering declining the offer if it came, but went through the motions. The HR manager and I realized I wasn't a fit.
