Software Engineer
A recruiter reached out about a software engineering role. I then got an online coding test, which was timed. It had typical questions about data structures and algorithms.
- Some coding questions about data structures were asked.
- Some coding questions about algorithms were asked.
Creative Director
The interview questions were standard, but the process wasn't great for senior candidates. The point of contact was a new talent associate, which meant slow communication. They scheduled 30-minute chats with the hiring manager, so my time got cut short. The manager said they wanted to continue the conversation and would have the associate schedule a part two, but then I got a generic rejection email a week later. No feedback was given when I asked why things changed so fast. It felt poorly managed and unprofessional. They also asked for a skills assessment. If a portfolio doesn't show capabilities, it's better to ask for more examples than to request free work at this level.
- Can you describe how you'd approach creating content that resonates with a diverse audience, from novices to experienced athletes?
Member Experience Associate
I sent my application to Mirror in mid-August. About a month later, they reached out with an email for a written assessment. The email seemed a bit off, coming from one person but with another person's email address and signed from the "MIRROR Member Experience Hiring Team." They gave me 48 hours to finish the assessment, which I did in about an hour and sent back within 90 minutes of receiving it. I followed up with an email saying I enjoyed the exercise and was eager to know about the next steps. A week and a half later, I checked in again about the hiring timeline. And then, I was totally ghosted for the past three weeks. I held off on writing this because I couldn't believe that was the outcome. I felt I did a great job on the assessment, but even if I didn't, there's no excuse for not following up with candidates after they've been engaged in the process, especially after asking them to spend time on an exercise. It's quick to do and the alternative is really inconsiderate.
- Respond to sample customer emails.
- Analyze and give feedback on a sample customer and associate interaction.
Store Manager
An external recruiter hit me up on Indeed. Even though I've done this job before, I wasn't their top pick. The recruiter was nice, and the job and company seemed cool, plus we had similar values. I was interested. But then we talked salary, and it was way below market, no bonus. I also wasn't quite what they were looking for, and I make double their offer. The recruiter got it and was polite. I told her they'd have trouble finding someone to run a luxury showroom in a fancy area for that pay. Overall, a good experience, but the salary is nowhere near right for this kind of role.
- Can you describe your management style?
