The interview was a bit convoluted, focusing on past experience. The main interviewer seemed disengaged, multitasking with emails. Standard questions related to the role and department were asked. Another team member then finished the interview with some questions that weren't always relevant to the position.

Le processus de recrutement au ministère de l'Intérieur se déroule assez vite. Il y a eu un échange par e-mail et un appel téléphonique (numéro masqué). Pendant l'entretien, le recruteur a bien expliqué le poste, puis on m'a posé des questions spécifiques sur mon intérêt, mes expériences passées, mon rythme de travail voulu, mes attentes salariales et mes disponibilités.

We started with an email and phone interview. They asked about overseas territories and history, and also about my academic background. It was surprising to get questions on philosophy, like Heidegger, and poetry, like Holderlin. The final questions were the usual ones about motivation and personal goals for the short term, medium term, and longer term.

During the competition, salaries are not communicated. The base salary is 2050 euros (for an Engineer with 7 years of experience), and this was communicated 3 weeks before starting the job. Be aware: your experience will only count for 50% towards calculating your grade. Nobody was informed of this during the ISIC competition. Make sure to get informed before choosing your position and even before resigning from your current job. There's a high risk of your salary decreasing if you come from the private sector. Check the ISIC salary scales before accepting, because it takes several years to move from one grade to another (and the salary increase is not significant).
