& Process

A recruiter reached out to me for a phone interview. The questions were pretty standard and direct, but the call felt really rushed. I barely got to ask my questions at the end and had to ask if I could email them later, which was a bit awkward. I heard back five days later saying they were going with other candidates who were a better fit. It's weird because the job is still posted and seems to have been reposted a few times since. It felt like the whole process could have been more organized and communicative.

I applied in person after an acquaintance told me they were hiring. I dropped off my resume and got a call back about a week later to come in for the skill test. The test had some simple grammar questions and math (pre-algebra or algebra max), but no calculator. About 3 days later they called me for an on the spot phone interview, which caught me by surprise because I was having a busy day so it was my fault for not rescheduling, but I performed poorly. I got a call back a day or two later saying that they were going to pursue other candidates unfortunately. Looking around in the office the environment seemed very comfortable yet everyone was buzzing away at their job and it made me feel like it was a place where I could look forward to working but it didn't work out that way.

The whole thing took at least 3 hours. I started with what I think was a basic math test in a room. Then I talked to HR, the VP of Sales, the VP of Marketing, maybe the CFO, and the Director of Operations. They asked me who I am, what I did, why I did it, and a bunch of other typical interview stuff. They also gave me the full rundown on themselves, the company, and the owner. We toured their warehouse and I saw the cramped offices where the Customer Service Reps sit. They discussed their expansion plans. After my interviews, HR contacted my references and I got a job offer by email.
