Behavioral Technical Presentation Case

The process started with a recruiter screening call. After that, I had a one-on-one with the Hiring Manager. Then, I had to prepare and virtually present a portfolio, a case study, and one of my projects to a team of 8-10 people, including HR and the Hiring Manager, for an hour. This presentation covered my background and why I was interested in Milgard. Following the presentation, I had a 4-hour interview with various team members, focusing on technical questions, my background, projects, and teamwork. They commented positively on my presentation. A few days later, I interviewed with the Hiring Manager and his boss. The HR requested additional background slides the evening before. During the interview, they decided to skip the presentation and move to questions, asking about OEE and PFMEA. Then, the Hiring Manager asked me to control his Excel sheet, which I couldn't do. We then discussed various projects. They informed me I was one of two finalists. Towards the end, the Hiring Manager suggested an essay assignment on commissioning automated fab equipment. I submitted the essay, but received no response. After two weeks of follow-up, I was informed they chose another candidate. The entire process spanned 7 weeks.

I attended a Walk-In Hiring Event with over 100 people. I filled out an online application there. I waited in a conference room until my name was called for the first interview. After being recommended for hiring, I had a second interview in the fiberglass warehouse. During the wait for the second interview, I was given a tour of the production floor. After the second interview, I was told I'd be recommended for hire and returned to the conference room. I then signed an offer letter, pending a background check and drug screen.

I put in my application on their website. Then, an HR Recruiter got in touch and we had a phone interview. It seemed to go pretty well. She then scheduled me for an interview with the customer service coordinator manager a few days after. That interview was alright, standard questions. He spent more time talking about the role than asking about my experience. He then mentioned they had more interviews to conduct before making a decision, which pretty much signaled I wasn't their top pick.

I applied online and then was interviewed two weeks later. The HR interview went really smoothly and they asked a lot of questions about purchasing. Even though the job description didn't say I needed purchasing experience, the Material Manager told me they couldn't hire me because I hadn't worked with Purchase Orders, which was strange since I have 15 years of experience with them and much more.
