First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MikMak.
Software Engineer
The whole thing took about 40 days from first contact to hearing back that they went with other candidates. It started with a 30-min phone screen with HR, then a quick 15-min chat with an engineer. After that, there were two 1-hour coding challenges: one involved building components from requirements, and the other was about running SQL queries. They really wanted to see how I'd communicate during these. Then, I had two 30-min interviews with people from the product team and the CTO. Since everything was remote, all these were on ZOOM. Everyone was super nice and I liked talking to them. I thought I was a good fit for what they needed, but I guess not in the end.
- Tell me about something you dislike about engineering.
- What experience do you have with analyzing data?
- Do you have any eCommerce experience?
Head of People
I was introduced to the CEO of MikMak by a mutual acquaintance via email. After three weeks and two follow-up emails from me, the CEO finally responded and directed me to another MikMak executive for a phone interview. The interview was a good discussion, and I sent a detailed follow-up note afterward. Then, another seven weeks passed with no communication from MikMak, despite me following up with the interviewer again. It wasn't until I emailed the CEO directly, stating I was concluding my interest in the role due to a poor candidate experience, that the CEO replied. Ironically, I had brought up MikMak's poor Glassdoor interview experience scores during the interview and in my follow-up, emphasizing the need for improvement, but my own experience was no better.
- How would you go about building company culture?
Customer Success Manager
A recruiter from MikMak reached out to me on LinkedIn for the Customer Success Manager position and we had an exploratory call. Following that, I had another interview with a team member to dive deeper into the role. The final interview was a 2-hour session, which included an interview and a presentation I gave with the team. I really enjoyed the whole process; it was transparent and quick. I got a good feel for the company and its people during the interviews. I'm happy I accepted the position because I love it here!
- What makes you want to join our company?
- Can you introduce yourself?
Product Designer
A recruiter messaged me on LinkedIn and we set up a call to chat about stuff. Then I talked with the hiring manager to get into more detail about the job and what it involves. The next step was doing a take-home project that took me the whole weekend. After that, we had a virtual interview that was like a round-robin for about 3 hours, where I got to go over my project and chat with different team members individually.
- Can you tell me about how you design things with your team?
- What led to your choices for specific design elements?
- How do you work together with the engineers?
