First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Migration Policy Institute.
Research Intern
I applied to the Integration office, where the role is focused on education and care related policy. The interview basically asked about my experiences with qualitative and quantitative research, and to identify one of the current biggest challenges in migration in the US.
- Can you tell me about your qualitative research experiences and identify one of the current biggest challenges in migration in the US?
- What are your quantitative research experiences and can you identify one of the current biggest challenges in migration in the US?
Intern
I had two interviews, they were both quick and direct. Nothing tricky was asked. I think I did well in the interviews, but they didn't pick me for the job in the end.
- What topic area are you interested in?
Research Assistant
The interview was with two senior people and it was pretty chill. They asked about my past experience and skills. There was also a case study where I had to talk about policy implications in a relevant area. This interview was supposed to be the first of a few, and I'm up against interns and other staff already at the company.
- What is your reason for leaving your current employer?
Research Assistant
The interview process was extremely lengthy. I waited months in between steps. After the second interview I was told I'd hear back within a few weeks...it has been almost two months and I haven't heard back.
- A lot of substance related questions on the research topics were asked, and questions from the phone interview and in-person interview were repetitive.
