First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Midwest Transplant Network.
Coordinator
First, I had a phone interview. After that, I went for two on-site interviews. The HR people were really nice, and so was everyone else I met. The offices are really nice, and the parking is covered and super close to the entrance. It's in a great central spot that's easy to get to.
- How did you find out about the opening at MTN?
Organ Coordinator
My initial chat with HR, Jeremy, was great, and he set me up with another coordinator. This person answered a lot of my questions. However, when I asked about career progression within the company and the job requirements, which were really vague, they seemed a bit thrown off and gave a very standard, non-committal answer. I had lunch in the employee area, which was nice, but the employees seemed a bit down and distant. When topics about the Midwest region came up, especially regarding internal processes or decision-making, they'd quickly change the subject. When asked about their favorite part of the job, they mentioned helping families, but couldn't point to any day-to-day office perks or general happiness. I ended up withdrawing my application the following week because another opportunity came up that seemed like a better fit for me. I'm not sure if I would have taken the offer if one was extended.
- Can you describe how you handle confrontational situations, particularly in the context of organ donation?
Administrative Assistant
So, I interviewed with MTN, and honestly, it felt like a lot. It was like, way more interviews than I expected, at least four before they even thought about an offer. It kicked off with a phone chat with Jenna from HR, who was super nice and gave me the lowdown on the job and the whole interview thing. Then I talked to Jan, the hiring manager, and we really clicked. She told me more about what the job actually involved, and I got pretty excited about the company because they seemed to really care about their employees. After that, I had a peer interview with Terra, who's also an Admin Assistant, and she gave me the real scoop on the day-to-day stuff. On the same day, I had another chat with Jenna and Heather from HR. Heather went over the benefits, and Jenna asked some standard interview questions. Heather Sics, the recruiter, was on top of scheduling everything, which was great. But after the fourth interview, it went quiet. I followed up, and they said they were still deciding. Then, like, four weeks went by with nothing. I messaged again, still super interested, and this time, crickets. No reply at all, which really bummed me out and made me feel like they didn't care. Still, I sent thank you notes to everyone. A week later, Jenna called about a different Admin Assistant role. I was kinda hesitant because of the ghosting, and even though it happens, it felt rude and made me feel like I wasn't valued. But I decided to give it another shot. The last interview was with Jan again. It was weird because I liked her before, but this time I just felt guarded. The new job actually sounded better, but I just couldn't get into it. I knew it wasn't going to work out. So yeah, if you're thinking about interviewing there, be ready for a long haul, and don't be surprised if they just stop talking to you.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a situation requiring you to demonstrate leadership qualities?
Donation Coordinator
I first had a phone chat with someone from HR that went for about an hour. Then, they offered me a second interview. This second interview involved meeting the Director of the department I was going for, talking with someone in the same role as the one I applied for (to ask them questions), and also interviewing with the Chief Operating Officer and the HR Director.
- Can you tell me about a time you dealt with a stressful situation and how you managed it?
