First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MidCap Financial.
Associate
So, I had a few rounds. First up was the Head of Talent, mostly just chatting about personality, fit, and my background. Then, a couple of senior folks from the product group did a similar vibe check on personality, fit, and background. After that, I had a timed case study to complete over a couple of days. Once that was done, it was a 'superday' with like 5 or more short interviews with different people on the product team and some senior management.
- What makes you interested in this specific asset class, industry, and company lifecycle stage?
Analyst
Had a phone call with an associate, which was pretty simple and casual. Then a first round interview with a VP where they asked some informational questions like why midcap and why private credit. Finally, there was an assessment interview to test Excel skills.
- Tell me about your interest in midcap companies.
- What draws you to private credit as an investment area?
- Demonstrate your Excel proficiencies through some exercises.
Financial Analyst
Had an on-campus interview that was split into two 30-minute conversations with different interviewers. The first half of the interview focused on my resume and experience, with broad yet specific questions about financial statements and loans. The second half was mostly technical, asking me to elaborate on different financial functions. They mentioned a final round super day at the Bethesda office with 8 interviews. This interview could have been easier, but I only got 12 hours' notice and had a very limited on-campus schedule. The interviewers seemed more focused on achievements than conversation.
- When a company seeks a loan, what key aspects do you examine in their financial statements?
- Can you describe bonds and the ways companies generate revenue from them?
Vice President
The whole thing took about 5-6 weeks, kicked off with a few Zoom calls with the hiring manager and some of the team. We talked about my tech skills, projects I'd done, and how I could help the company hit its targets. After that, I came into the office for an in-person meeting with everyone. They all introduced themselves, explained what they do, and asked how I work with others. We also looked at how my abilities fit with what they're planning for future projects, which gave me a good sense of the team vibe.
- Tell me about your experience in this industry.
