It was mostly on the chill side. They were friendly and welcoming. Most of it was skills oriented. They had 2 interviews: 1. Tech where they ask DSA questions and ask you to share screen 2. Tech + HR where they do a background check and ask about CS Fundamentals and Projects.

The process began with a recruiter contacting me. They gave me some assignments to finish, which I did. Then I went to Redmond for interviews with 3 different teams. There were 5 interviews in total. All rounds were technical. They gave me problem statements, asked me to write pseudo code and explain how I was approaching the problem. In the later rounds, the difficulty increased and the final round was something I had never seen before. It was about writing an algorithm to detect the highest point in a contour map. I honestly did not expect to clear it. But I think this is an as-appropriate interview. If the candidate seems suitable, they get to talk to a fairly senior person. This person goes deeper and deeper to test a person's grit at problem solving. I think they want to see how determined you are to reach solutions – a skill that is very important at Microsoft. So I gave my solution and the person kept pushing me for more and more details. At some point he must have decided that I had reached my limit. I got the offer.

- Design an algorithm for sorting a peculiar kind of array. If your fundamentals are strong (from K&R) and from interview questions you find online, and if you practice at least a 100 of them, you should be able to hold your own.

I was contacted by an HR for the SDET2 role. I asked for 2 weeks time to prepare. First round was a telephonic interview (I was in Bangalore and the job opening was for Hyderabad). It was mostly testing related questions. Later I was called for a face to face interview at Hyderabad. There were 3 interviews, 2 were coding rounds and one was hiring manager round, where the hiring manager asked few coding related questions and then few soft skills questions. After these interviews, I came back to Bangalore. HR informed me to have another round of interview by higher management (As Appropriate round), which was related to soft skills, personality, attitude etc. Finally, I was offered the role within few days after the interview.
