I got called about a week before the application deadline to set up an in-person interview. A panel of three MDOT employees interviewed me. They each had six questions prepared and took notes while I answered. I think it went well. At the end, they gave me standard answers when I asked my questions.

The first interview was virtual and had a 3-person panel. The second interview was supposed to be in person downtown Lansing and was scheduled a week in advance. However, it was cancelled less than 24 hours before it was supposed to happen because they "decided not to fill the position." Although the interview process itself wasn't hard, they showed a real lack of professionalism and respect for people's time with that last-minute cancellation. They require at least 24 hours' notice to cancel but don't show the same courtesy.

After the application period ended on the NEOGOV site, I got a call about two weeks later to set up an interview on MS Teams. The interview was with the supervisor and manager of the section and an HR rep. I was asked 20 detailed and specific questions about work experiences, mainly to understand how I work with others, and was given 60 minutes to answer all the questions. It was probably the most difficult interview I've ever had.
