Professional
The recruitment firm was helpful and kind, but the whole process took over 2 months, which felt really long. No one mentioned it would take this long. They had a lot of interviews, over 5, which seems like a lot for a non-manager, non-director role. I'm not sure what they were looking for since they didn't ask many technical questions. The recruiter was the main point of contact, and even after sending thank you notes, there was silence. It took weeks to hear back about the next steps.
- Can you explain your motivation for wanting to join this company?
Workplace Technology Specialist
I interviewed 8 times for an entry-level service desk position. They were upfront that this was the first new role on the team in 7 years, so I gave them grace for the long process. I had many interviews with different departments about how tech fits with HR and their people. My final interview was with the SVP of Tech and the hiring manager. This was about 5 weeks ago. I haven't heard back and don't know if I got the job or if it's filled. I reached out to TA 3 weeks ago and they said they'd follow up with the hiring manager, but I still haven't heard anything in 2 more weeks. It's a shame to be ghosted by an NFP I really believe in and was passionate about for over 3 months, but it seems like this is normal for communication with applicants.
- What motivates your interest in working for the Michael J Fox Foundation, and what led you to apply for this specific role?
VP
The interview process began with a recruiter screening from an external team, followed by an interview with the hiring manager. After that, I had six interviews with other team members who were mid to senior-level leaders, and also the CMO. Most people were nice and seemed to believe in the mission. The questions weren't too technical. Although I support the MJFF mission, they really didn't respect my time. After the extensive interview process that the hiring manager laid out, they called me back for a surprise follow-up interview with the hiring manager. This was my 9th interview over three months, and I thought it would lead to an offer since they said they'd have a decision the next day, and it was for tying up logistical questions. However, they chose another finalist and didn't tell me until I followed up a week later. As a hiring manager, it's important to make timely decisions. I shouldn't have had an interview with the CMO or a surprise follow-up with the HM if they already had a top finalist. Some MJFF team members mentioned issues with decision-making at MJFF, and this experience was a perfect example.
- Can you describe your approach to leadership?
Marketing Officer
A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn. I had 3 calls, each about 30 minutes, over two weeks. First was with the recruiter, then the hiring manager and a team member, and finally the Director. The interviews were pretty conversational, which was nice because I could check for cultural fit and ask about the team. They mainly asked about my past job duties and accomplishments, why I'm interested in MJFF, how I could help the team with my skills, and what I do when I'm stuck on something without all the info. It was one of the best interview experiences I've had, with really good communication the whole time. Honestly, the calls could have been a bit longer than 30 minutes.
