Behavioral

My interviewer was late and seemed stressed, like they had other things on their mind. They also weren't personable at all. They ended the call with, “If you don’t hear back from us, it’s because we went in a different direction.” Just rude and I didn't have a great interview experience.

It was a behavioral interview, focused on my soft skills and self-starter mentality. There were two rounds. I met with two VPs during the first round, and then I met with more team members in the second round. The team seemed really welcoming and friendly.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

I was really excited to hear from the Marlins HR department about a job opening. Working in MLB has always been a dream of mine, and even though I knew it was a long shot, getting a personal call felt huge! First, I had a phone screen with HR where we discussed my experience. They then let me know the Creative Services team wanted to interview me. I quickly got the video software set up and was thrilled. The interview day came, and it went well. The Creative Services team mentioned my prior experience with another sports team stood out from other applicants, which made me really happy. At the end, they asked me to send over some of my work samples, which I did right away. Some of my files were too big to email, so I let them know that while thanking them for the opportunity. A day passed, then a week, then a month, and I never heard back. Normally, I'd be upset when companies ghost me after I thank them, but it was my dream job in my dream industry. I'm just a bit sad they made me feel like I had the job secured.

Group Behavioral Technical

After a couple of phone calls I was invited to an Inside Sales Workshop on a Saturday. It was a group of about 15 people who came from all over to take part in this full day event. We had to introduce ourselves to the group and then got a little intro from some Sales Reps and then toured Marlins Park. Then we practiced cold calls and different scenarios with Sales Reps and other candidates before making actual cold calls for about 2-3 hours while people were pulled to do one on ones or two on ones. For some reason I was never pulled in and I am not sure if everyone else got a chance to talk to people one on one. So I basically worked for the Marlins for a full day making phone calls but nobody took their time to even talk to me personally for a minute. I was there for 8 hours and was very disappointed especially because they kept saying how much they care about individuals and how big of a culture they have. For the future I think you need to work out a better way to make sure everybody gets their face to face time or tell people you’re not interested in to leave after 2 hours so you don’t have them sitting around for 8 hours. A couple weeks after the interview I received a phone call from someone at the Marlin’s and I was asked if I had already come in for an interview. When I told her I did take part in a workshop for ticket sales she offered me a guest experience/ fan shop attendee which I did not take. I understand that many people want to work in sport and that you have plenty of applicants, but I think that you still need to respect everyone’s time. Start living up to all your promises! Overall I was very disappointed and wouldn’t want to work for them if this is how you’re treated in the interview process.
