MGM Studios Interview Questions
& Process

I started with a phone interview with the current assistant. Then, I went in to meet my potential employer. I waited in the lobby for a while. I went into his office with my resume, though I'm not sure he looked at it. He talked about his career path. He asked about my previous work experience. He mentioned MGM is a good company for growth and learning. Then he discussed what Hollywood is like as an industry and asked if I had thick skin. After that, he asked about my favorite movie. He said I'd need to pay my dues but could go far if I did. After the interview, he gave me some sample coverage.

The recruiting process felt underdeveloped. After reading other Glassdoor reviews about others' interview experiences, I can also attest to getting a major air of ego. The recruiter didn't provide any introduction to herself and jumped right into a script of questions. The recruiter refused to disclose the salary range for the role and rationalized that our call wasn't actually an interview (this is an illegal practice in CA now). When I was able to ask questions, I quickly realized the job posting wasn't written in a way that presented the full scope of the opportunity. I asked a question that seemed to hit a nerve, and the recruiter chided "That is NOT something we would discuss in an interview," but it was very much a normal question for this role. Having been a recruiter myself, I was disappointed in the interaction. I was left with a poor impression and honestly disinterested. I'm certain the recruiter had no intention to come off so brusque, but I found the candidate experience to be uncomfortable and impersonal. Please be transparent about your roles and appreciate your candidates' interest and time during the interview.

I was interviewed by a few people, two from HR and three from the Residuals department. They showed me around the whole floor and where I would be working. I also got to ask as many questions as I wanted, and nobody made me feel like it was a silly question.

They asked questions about my prior experiences and how they could benefit the position I applied for. I met with HR and then 3 other people on the team that was hiring.
