MGIC Investment Interview Questions
& Process

The onsite interview had three parts: a chat with the hiring manager, then with team members, and finally with HR. The hiring manager asked good questions and seemed into it, but the team members were really quiet and seemed disengaged.

The whole interview process spanned 3 months, and then it took another 3 months to hear back about the outcome. Everyone I met was great, and the questions were tough but made me think. The timeline was: I applied online, then 4 weeks later had an HR phone interview. Three weeks after that, I spoke with the hiring manager over the phone. Two weeks later, I did a 4+ hour in-person panel interview with different managers. Then, three weeks after that, I had a second 4+ hour in-person panel interview with some of the same managers again. When I asked about timelines after the second interview, they said it could be months before a decision because of vacations and other candidates. I took a job elsewhere that offered me a position in less than 10 days total. I didn't tell MGIC because I wanted them to at least let me know their decision. Over 3 months later with no word, I got an automated email saying they weren't offering me the job.

I was interviewed by a senior risk analyst and a quant risk analyst for about 30 minutes each. They asked me basic questions about risk, finance, and behavior. It's been a week since then, and I haven't heard back, so I emailed them about the recruitment process. They told me they still need 'a few weeks to make a decision.' I find it unprofessional that they can't just reject me if that's the case. Apparently, all candidates from our major are in the same boat, with no feedback or updates for the next round. I heard they might even cancel the position. So, I definitely won't consider this company again.

I met with three IT team members from MGIC at my school. They were all very friendly and engaging. First, I gave a presentation of my work. Then, the rest of the interview was pretty traditional: I answered some questions, asked some questions, and learned about the company. Even though another candidate was selected, it was one of the most enjoyable interviews I've had. The interviewers were approachable and masters in their fields, driven for growth. They valued company culture and spoke highly of management. The group was inviting, personable, competent, and professional. I hope to meet them again.
