First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MG2.
Architectural Associate
It was pretty straightforward. The first chat was mainly to get acquainted and learn about my background. Then, the second interview focused on my previous work and going through my portfolio. We also discussed past experiences and how I tackled difficult situations.
- Can you discuss your previous work history?
Associate
An HR person set up interviews with different people in the office, and then I interviewed with them. The interviewers were nice, and I enjoyed talking with them. However, the hiring and onboarding process was really bad. They rescinded my offer just because I'm not a US worker. Their lawyer gave the reason, and I question their lawyer's skills with F-1 employees. By the time they told me they pulled my offer, I had already given up my apartment, paid deposits, sold my car for less, leased a new place and paid deposits, ordered furniture, bought plane tickets, hired movers, and packed most of my stuff. I had turned down two interviews and an offer. I also stopped applying for jobs for two weeks. They wasted my time and effort! I need to find another job, and my deadline to leave the US is approaching fast. I'll have to leave the US if I don't find a job quickly. MG2 has caused me a lot of trouble and messed up my career plans. I'm very unhappy with their hiring team.
- Tell me about yourself and present a project you've worked on, detailing what you learned from it.
- Walk me through a project you've completed and discuss your key takeaways.
Architectural Designer
The interview process was pretty straightforward and quick, all done remotely due to the pandemic. It was about an hour long with two interviewers. Before that, I had to do a personality test. There were a few emails with HR to sort out logistics. After the interview, I got a phone call just to let me know they'd be sending an offer letter soon, which they did within an hour. Overall, a very prompt and easy process.
- Can you tell me about your background?
- What about your internship or previous job experience?
- Which two projects are you most proud of or think best represent you, and what software did you use for them?
Interior Designer
I was first contacted by HR via email and then had a phone call with their HR person. They asked general questions like 'tell me about yourself,' 'why do you want to work here,' and 'where do you see yourself in 5 years.' After that, they invited me for a second interview, offering a choice between in-person or video. I opted for the in-person meeting. I was supposed to meet with two interviewers, but only one person ended up showing up. They asked some general questions, inquired about my interest in retail design, and asked me to present one of my favorite projects from my portfolio. Following the interview, the interviewer gave me a brief tour of their office.
- Can you explain the distinctions between residential, retail/commercial, and hospitality design?
- What are your thoughts on the definitions of residential, retail/commercial, and hospitality design?
