First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Metropolitan Police Service.
Telecommunications Specialist
The interview process starts with a group exercise that isn't too hard; you just need to talk and remember facts about the other candidates. Next, there's a typing test, which is easy as long as you're fast and accurate. I think the minimum speed is 40 WPM. The interview itself is easy as long as you can talk about the company's values and times when you used those values.
- Describe a situation where you felt frustrated.
Administrator
I got an email about the interview and had to book a slot online, which was a month out. The interview was in person. I did a test first, and then the interview. Both the test and interviewers were nice and made me feel pretty relaxed. It started with a question about what I like to do outside of work, then moved on to competency questions, which I really don't like!
- Can you tell me about a time you made a mistake?
Data Literacy and Culture Manager
The recruitment team was really involved initially, reaching out via calls before the interview. They gave me a heads-up about what competencies and values they'd be looking at. I had to prep a short presentation about data literacy on the Met frontline, followed by a 10-min Q&A. Then, there was a formal panel interview with about 5-7 questions covering different parts of the job. The interviewers made it pretty clear which competencies and values each question was about. Honestly, it felt a bit impersonal, like they were looking for specific buzzwords rather than genuine understanding or how I'd approach the role. I kind of felt like just repeating the job description might have landed better. Even though I didn't get an offer, the lack of follow-up was a letdown. They said I'd hear back in a few days, but it took almost two weeks to get an automated email, with no personal call, which made the earlier warm communication seem less sincere. Overall, it was a polite but very structured and bureaucratic process.
- Can you present your insights on data literacy within the Met frontline?
- What are your thoughts regarding competency and value-based questions pertinent to this position?
Digital Delivery Manager
The interview process consisted of two one-hour interviews. The first interview was a test of my ability to extract key information from a given scenario. The second interview was a competency-based interview. I felt things were going well until the very end when I was rejected. When I asked for feedback, they stated there was none, which was quite disappointing and left me with a negative impression of the Metropolitan Police's recruitment process.
- What are your strategies for motivating a team?
