It was 5 rounds total. First a recruiter screener, then I met with the hiring manager remotely. After that, I had a portfolio review with another designer, also remote. Then, I interviewed with a PM. The last round was a panel discussion and portfolio presentation with the wider team.

The whole process was done through Remotely Works, a site for remote job postings. It had 4 stages: a take-home technical challenge that was pretty extensive, a paired coding interview where I had to explain and add to my previous work, a systems design interview focusing on a past complex feature I designed, and a final hiring manager screening which was a mix of conversation and technical deep dives. After the last interview, I waited for a whole month to hear back from Metropolis. Despite sending several emails, I only got a response from my Remotely contact stating they weren't moving forward, with no apology for the delay. They had previously told me they were still interviewing others and would let me know once they were done with them, which felt like I was expected to wait indefinitely. I eventually had to give an ultimatum about having other offers to get a response. This entire experience was incredibly unprofessional, and I definitely do not recommend this company given how they treat candidates who invest their time.
