I had a phone screen with a recruiter, then a video interview with the hiring manager for an Operations Engineer – IP & Routing position. The manager started by saying it would be a chill chat, which it was, but not in a good way. He spent most of the time talking about himself instead of asking about my experience or technical skills, so I left not knowing what he really evaluated. His camera was off the whole time. He told me to email him with questions at the end and that I'd hear back the next week. I followed up many times with both him and the recruiter, but never got a response from either. No update, no rejection, just silence. The worst part was the lack of communication. Promising to follow up and then ghosting candidates is unprofessional no matter the outcome. I wouldn't suggest applying if your time and transparency are important to you.

I heard from the recruiter and did a phone screen. After that, they set up an interview with the hiring manager. I mostly talked to the recruiter for follow-up discussions; they were my main contact. The recruiter also handled the offer and other HR stuff.

After I applied, a recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn to set up a first phone chat. I got back to them fast with when I was free, but no response came. I nudged them again, saying when I could chat, and then the recruiter replied, asking me to text them directly. I did, and the recruiter then rang me for a quick talk about the gig. After that, the recruiter set up an interview with the hiring manager for the next Monday. The chat went well, and then they asked if I could do a technical panel interview two days later, which I said yes to. After the panel, I shot a thank you note to the hiring manager, who said to 'watch out for an email from us about what's next,' and told me to hit them up with any questions. About a week later, no word, so I texted and called the recruiter to ask about the status of next steps. The recruiter texted back, saying another interview was set for the next day and that the team was sorting out the pay range approval. Four more weeks went by with zero contact, so I texted again. The recruiter thanked me for checking in and mentioned that both the hiring manager and them had asked about approval for a Senior pay range but still hadn't heard back. Today, it's been over 7 weeks since my last interview, and I still haven't heard anything from the recruiter or hiring manager. This lack of openness and long silence has been pretty disappointing and not very professional, especially since the early chats were good and I spent time on multiple interviews. I'm reporting this to highlight the communication issues and to ask for more responsibility and follow-through in future hiring. I'd like to know where my application stands and any feedback on how it went.

This interview experience usually includes a manager and a few supervisors. It typically lasts about two hours. It starts with some general info about the company and the role. Usually, only one supervisor asks questions, while the others might not say much. They have a lot of questions prepared and tend to ask everyone the same ones. The questions aren't really focused on technical skills for the job itself, but more on your personality, how quickly you can learn, whether you'll follow instructions even if you don't agree, and your attention to detail.
