It was a super long process with this company, taking about 2 months in total. First, there was a phone interview with the recruiter, then another phone interview with the hiring manager. After that, I had in-person interviews with 4 people. Two of those were actually phone interviews because one person was remote and couldn't make it in person, so we did a separate Zoom call. Then, I had to do a presentation, and a lot of the questions they asked during the interviews were related to that. Right before the presentation and the homework for it, I had a 30-minute interview with the HR Director. It was a bit annoying because giving a presentation is already tough, and having another interview right before it felt rough. The interviewers themselves were nice though.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

My interview process started with a 45-minute phone chat with the hiring manager. About two weeks later, I came in for an in-person meeting that ended up being a 3+ hour marathon with five different people. The surprise interviews were a bit unexpected, but I think they went well and I got a good understanding of the company and the role. If they decided to move forward with me, the next step would have been a technical presentation to a large group, which also had a strange requirement about sharing a unique quirk.

The interview process was long, but I really connected with the recruiter, which was a major factor in my decision to accept the role. My interviews with the team felt a bit scattered. I met with the previous person in my role who asked me to just "go ahead and give my spiel." The hiring manager was friendly, which helped me relax. However, meeting with the head of the department was a strange experience. They greeted me for the final part of the interview. Upon seeing me, they gave me a quick look up and down and adopted a really stern demeanor. I was dressed casually but neatly, as suggested in the invitation. Unlike the others on the panel, this person hadn't prepared any questions or topics, so I ended up talking about myself. They shared a bit about themselves and then asked if I had any questions. I asked the most straightforward questions I could think of to keep the conversation going. Since I was running out of things to ask (their answers were brief), I asked one last question, to which they responded, "that’s it?" My decision to take the job was influenced by the recruiter building my trust and the impression that the company culture and environment supported professional growth. What's the takeaway? An interaction like this with a panel member, especially the department head, should be a warning sign for any company, as they heavily shape the team's overall vibe.

I applied online and then had a phone interview. After that, I met with the team onsite for a 30-minute interview with 4 people. They were very punctual and used the full 30 minutes, asking standard questions. Some team members couldn't make it. It was a long day, over 2 hours total. If you pass this stage, a more challenging interview will be scheduled. I've heard that a panel interview follows.
