Technical Coding System Design

It was a quick process, wrapped up in just a week. There were 3 rounds total, all technical. One focused on Java, another on algorithms which was pretty easy, and a final one on system design. The vibe was pretty chill, not stressful at all.

The interview process started with a technical challenge: design and implement a simple school registration system with a REST API for managing students and courses using Java/Groovy, Spring Boot, Docker, JUnit, and MySQL. This was followed by an HR-style interview combined with live coding exercises, including simulating a linked list, calculating Big O notation, and performing a join-based query. A subsequent technical interview involved another live coding test, specifically creating a custom Set implementation without using Java's built-in Set. The final technical interview focused on database topics, covering normalization/denormalization, query optimization, and executing a query with joins and a group by clause on a provided data structure. After completing all stages, I was informed I didn't pass and received no feedback on my performance, which I found unprofessional given the time invested.
