First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Merritt Group.
Account Executive
I applied via a staffing agency and the interview process was quite smooth. It started with a 30-minute phone call, and then I was invited for an onsite interview a week later. The office location is in FiDi and easy to find, and they share space with Cutline Communications. Interestingly, the entire staff I met were women, which is common in marketing/PR. The interview itself was pretty standard, but the interviewers seemed more focused on how I'd work with their team rather than my actual skills and experience. They really emphasized my ability to coach and mentor junior employees, making it seem like the main part of the job, more so than client service. They quickly told me they were moving on and, when I asked for feedback, said I wasn't a 'cultural fit.' It felt like they wanted to hire someone they already knew rather than a good teammate.
- What is your approach to mentoring and teaching junior team members?
Account Coordinator
The reception area felt small and unwelcoming. After being led to a conference room, I waited about 20 minutes before starting my four interviews. One person scheduled for an interview didn't show up. The interviewers' skills were quite lacking, and I had more than enough qualifications for the job. The whole thing took over two hours.
- What's your reason for leaving your current job?
Director
The hiring process was quick, so be ready to decide fast. The interviews were thorough but didn't have any pointless tests or procedures. I got to meet a few partners and ask them about their vision for the company's future.
- What are your thoughts on the practice's direction over the next two years?
Application Engineer
I interviewed for a role that doesn't exist yet, and after three rounds, they went silent, leaving me in limbo. This approach can set false expectations and make you miss other chances because you're focused on this one.
- Can you describe your past experience related to the industry this role would serve?
