First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Merkle.
SEO Specialist
I first talked to a recruiter at my school's career fair back in September 2016. About a week after, a recruiter reached out to set up a phone interview for the SEM role. A few weeks later, I went to a shadow day at their office through my university, and that's when I realized I liked the SEO side of things more. Weeks went by, and I didn't hear anything from the recruiter. Finally, around November, I got in touch to ask about what was next, and she told me it would take about a month before any decisions could be made. In January 2017, I got an email saying they wanted me to come in for a two-hour interview with four team members. That Friday, I had a great interview with four managers, and I felt like it went well. I thought I'd hear back within the next week or so, and the recruiter got in touch to say they were still in the process of interviewing. About a month passed, and I reached out again about the hiring process. After sending one last email in April, I pretty much gave up on it. Even though the recruiter was always quick and professional in answering my emails (which I really appreciated), she would always say they were still hiring or hoping to decide soon. So yeah, I would have preferred a straight-up rejection instead of being strung along.
- Can you explain the process by which Google ranks web pages?
SEO Manager
The interview was virtual and had 4 rounds. They aim to assess qualifications, skills, and suitability. They initially say they have a good budget but then claim they don't have enough after the final round, offering only a 7-10% hike. They were arrogant when I tried to negotiate salary, which was unprofessional for Merkle, blaming their merger with Dentsu and policy changes.

The assessment centre was really chilled. We kicked off with an intro presentation followed by a one-on-one chat. After that, there were a few ice breakers where we had to answer questions in front of everyone, like 'most interesting thing that happened to you' and 'something you want to do in the future'. Lastly, we did a group exercise which was a survival task.
