Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Merkle.
Director
The application was easy and submitting my resume and cover letter online was smooth. HR responded quickly and invited me for an initial screening interview. The HR person was nice and gave me good info about the job and the interview process. This made me feel good about Merkle. But, things changed when I met the hiring manager. It felt like they didn't see me as a real candidate from the start. They weren't very interested when we talked about my skills and experience, and how I could help the team. This made the interview feel pointless. I also felt the process wasn't fair or transparent. Even though I tried to show my qualifications and interest, it seemed like they had already decided. This made the interview awkward and made me question Merkle's hiring. They were also not clear about what happens next. I didn't know about timelines, more interviews, or feedback. This left me unsure about my application. So, while the HR part was good, the hiring manager part was bad. The unfairness and lack of clear communication made me feel negative about Merkle as a place to work. Companies need to be fair, respectful, and communicate clearly throughout the hiring process to keep candidates interested.
- How would you describe your leadership style?
Director
The interview process was really unprofessional and disorganized, with disconnected top management. It started with a phone interview where the recruiter initially asked me to call an international number, but they ended up calling me. Following that, more than four people contacted me, each passing responsibility for the next steps to another. Weeks passed, interview times were changed, and I had to reschedule some of my commitments for them. The interviews with upper management were all over the place; the job description wasn't clear, and each person explained the role differently. Some were kind and respectful, while others didn't even introduce themselves or their roles. I had to Google them beforehand to know who I was talking to. It was chaotic, though the office environment seemed nice.
- How does your experience align with the requirements of this position?
Director
After chatting with the recruiter, who I asked about what makes a candidate successful, I had a phone interview with the head of Sales. Then, I interviewed with the vertical manager. The next step was a day at their headquarters with six interviews and a group presentation. While it was a long process, it felt fair. It would have been great to know upfront what they were looking for in the personal interviews. At Merkle, each interviewer has a vote, and two 'thumbs down' means you're out. The hiring manager promised a debrief afterward, but didn't follow through.
- Do you lean more towards strategy or application in your work?
- Can you share concrete examples where the sales process resulted in a favorable outcome?
