First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Merit Management Group.
Marketing Intern
It was a two-part interview process. The first part was more of a get-to-know-you chat with someone who started in the role I applied for and climbed the company ladder. The second interview involved shadowing someone in the position, going through their day. This day mainly consisted of going door-to-door trying to persuade residents to switch to renewable energy sources from fossil fuels for Inspire, a client of Merit Management. The role was commission-based, with reps supposedly earning about $90 per household that signed up. The interviews themselves weren't too tough, and everyone seemed really nice, but I realized door-to-door sales wasn't the career path for me.

Sales Representative
So, I had this group interview with two other candidates, and we met Glen, the president of Merit Management. We all sat down, and he told us all about Merit Management, like its history, how it's grown, and his plans for the future, like opening more offices. He also gave us a good idea of what sales is like here and what he expects from us. He's looking for people who are willing to work weekends and put in 40-60 hours a week. He asked us personal opinion questions and some marketing questions to check our knowledge, which felt a bit like a test sometimes. He seemed like a really nice guy, and the employees there are young and seem cool too. But, honestly, the whole thing felt a little off, like it wasn't super official.

- What marketing strategies do you think are most effective for consumers among radio, PSA, face-to-face, and advertisements?

Marketing and Outreach
The interview was just on the phone. I cancelled the first interview because of the reviews here on Glassdoor. To confirm what I was reading, I called the woman who I have been in contact with. I asked if the position was marketing or sales. She stated that I would have to, "do in home consultations." That just about confirmed my fears. It sucked because I took off a day of work at my current job in hope of pursuing a new career, just to be disillusioned. After cancelling, the woman said, "ohhh. Okayyy" like I had told her I wasn't going to buy her Girl Scout Cookies. This to me, wasn't all that professional. Their website looks awesome! I really wish they could have met my expectations. In the future, I am going to read reviews before rashly jumping into an interview.
- Would you be able to travel to Glen Ellen?
Public Relations Specialist
I had a preliminary chat with someone who seemed pretty intense, asking standard questions about my career goals. Then, I got to the real part of the job, which is basically going door-to-door to sell for a green energy company. That's not really my scene. The job listing wasn't totally clear about that part, and I felt it was a bit misleading. I really wasn't expecting a "PR Specialist" role to involve going out and selling green energy solutions on the street. The interview itself was fine, though.
- Would you be okay with managing a team of over 30 individuals?
