I spoke with a partner and my boss' boss. The interviews felt like a two-way conversation, which was a nice change. They showed respect from the start and seemed genuinely interested in whether it was a good fit for both of us. They asked how I'd handle hypothetical support problems, not in a super detailed way, but more to understand my problem-solving approach and see if it aligned with theirs. They were upfront about everything and delivered information in a timely manner.

They were super accommodating with my schedule, and the whole thing wrapped up in 3 weeks from start to offer. It seems like they really care about finding the right cultural fit. I had 3 video calls with different teams: my potential manager, the Engineering Director, and a Tech Partner. The calls were mostly about general stuff, like company culture, tech stacks I've used, and past projects. No real coding questions in these calls, that was handled by the skills tests. They had two technical skill tests which were pretty straightforward and could be done on my own time.

I found the job on weworkremotely.com and applied online. They got back to me pretty fast to set up a first phone chat. The person who was going to interview me sent over an invite and called exactly when we scheduled. During that first chat, we talked about my background and what I know how to do, and they let me ask them stuff too. They also laid out the whole hiring process they use and told me to get in touch if I didn't hear back.

Behavioral Case Presentation

I met with Jason, the Director of Product, and we had a great initial conversation. Afterward, I was given a short assignment to see how I'd handle project and product management situations. My next interview was with Jason and AJ, an Engineering Manager, where we went over my assignment responses. AJ was also really nice and knew his stuff. The last interview was with Donald, a partner at MercuryWorks. Another good chat. I got really good feedback from everyone I met. In my final chat with Donald, he asked about my salary and benefits expectations. I said $150k and 4 weeks of PTO (instead of the 3 weeks advertised). The job description said the range was $110k-$150k. Donald said that wouldn't be an issue. I got the offer, but it was for $143k and 3 weeks vacation, with health benefits starting after 90 days. I tried to negotiate for $160k and questioned the PTO, assuming it was negotiable since I'd already discussed it with a partner. I would have taken $150k and 4 weeks PTO as discussed, but that wasn't the offer. Donald then withdrew the offer instead of continuing the discussion. Reading the Glassdoor reviews makes me think I might have dodged a bullet.
