First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercer Advisors.
Creative Director
I applied online and after 6 weeks of silence, I got an email from HR to schedule a phone interview. The interview was set for another 3 weeks later. It went well, and HR asked a lot about my management experience and what salary I was looking for. They seemed to think I was a good fit based on my skills, experience, and salary expectations, and said they'd be in touch in 2-3 days about the next steps. But then... nothing. I never heard back from Mercer, not even a rejection email. It's so unprofessional, especially for a company that size; they could at least send an automated 'no thanks.'
- What was the size of the team you managed previously?
Regional Vice President
The interview process began with an initial phone call with a recruiter, followed by a Zoom interview with the Head of Sales. Both of these initial interactions were enjoyable and felt like natural conversations. Following these, the Head of Sales arranged a subsequent interview via Zoom with a Managing Director. While this conversation started well, it took a peculiar turn when the Managing Director remarked that clients prefer working with younger advisors. This comment struck me as odd, especially given the company's stated commitment to hiring women, and my own extensive experience. Reflecting on it, I wish I had addressed it directly, but I hold Mercer in high regard. I also recall seeing a comment from about a year ago on another forum discussing Mercer Advisors, which mentioned that the pay for advisors might not be competitive and that they tend to hire less experienced individuals, leading to high turnover.
- The first two conversations were quite genuine and conversational in nature.
- The third interview started conversationally, then shifted towards behavioral questions.
- Can you share your perspective on the changing client preferences towards younger advisors?
Wealth Management Intern
The interview process involved 3 rounds. Everyone was super nice and the interviews were not technical at all. The people were great and seemed genuinely passionate about their work and colleagues. Despite being a rapidly growing company, they've managed to maintain a fantastic culture.
- Can you share some basic behavioral examples?
- Could you elaborate on that answer with follow-up questions?
Legal Assistant
I was emailed about a phone interview, which was a general get-to-know-you and why-do-you-want-to-work-here type of thing. It went okay. Then, an in-person interview was set up, but it got cancelled last minute as I was getting ready. I was annoyed but was professional about it. Two weeks later, I got another email for a phone interview. I replied with my availability, but heard nothing for a while. Finally, after chasing them up, I got an email saying the interview wouldn't happen and they'd hired someone else. It was a disorganized and unprofessional waste of my time. But honestly, if this is how they manage interviews, I can only imagine how they handle important tasks.
