Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America.
Engineer
Recruiter called me for background information and then scheduled an onsite interview. I was asked to prepare a job talk presentation and 5 mins on 2 topics related to the role. The presentation was 30 mins long, followed by 30 mins of questions. The second interview was a formal HR interview with general leadership questions. I got an offer in 2 weeks.
- Can you describe your typical daily routine and explain what CAN is?
Engineer
You'll waste your time with recruiters who lack technical knowledge and just check boxes based on your resume. You have to claim you know the precise skills mentioned, even if they're outdated or unused elsewhere, because they won't recognize more advanced versions due to their lack of understanding.
- Do you know the exact skill listed in the job description?
- Do you know the exact program listed in the job description?
Engineer
Had a phone call with a recruiter where they asked some general questions. Then, I had an interview call with a panel. The panel asked technical questions and gave me some simple coding exercises to do. I never heard back from them after that.
- The interviewer seemed to be checking boxes with their questions during the panel interview.
- The interviewer focused on a research area I haven't worked in, even though I had previously clarified my area of expertise.
