First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MERC.
Software Engineer
The interview process is more personality-focused and doesn't involve difficult or complex technical questions. However, you will be expected to discuss the technologies and projects you've worked on. They might check your social media profiles, but they aren't overly strict about it.
- What's your method for organizing code?
- How would you go about understanding or working with code written by someone else?
Staff Engineer
Submitted my resume, then scheduled an interview with three senior folks. It was about an hour long, pretty relaxed, and they mostly talked about my skills, past work, and personality. Got the offer pretty fast and started work within a week.
- Tell me about your experience with standard job-related tasks.
Intern
I sent my resume to a general MERC email and got a reply the same day to set up an interview for the next week. The interview was pretty chill, and they asked stuff mostly from my resume.
- What are your future career aspirations in five years?
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Please elaborate on your experience with specific software like MATLAB and Python.
Mechanical Engineer
The whole thing was done in a single day. I had a bunch of short, 15-minute chats with different managers and lead engineers, mostly from the team I was applying to. They also showed me around the facility for a bit, usually the division manager doing the showing. The lead engineers mostly just asked about my past work, but the managers went deeper into situation-based questions.
- Given a general overview of a recent project, how would you have tackled the entire effort? What actions would you have performed and what was the reasoning behind them?
