The interview process for this role felt like it took forever. I first spoke with a recruiter about a week and a half after applying. Then there was almost a full month before the second interview, and then another three weeks until the third one. I didn't hear back with a rejection until over a month after that last interview. Honestly, I felt like my time wasn't really respected. They had to reschedule interviews a bunch of times, sometimes with just a day's notice. I was also pretty bummed that a lot of the questions felt like they were trying to trip me up, rather than actually discussing the job itself. They talked a ton about the company culture, which I guess is important, but I would have preferred to know more about the actual work.

The first interview wasn’t really an interview, they just asked a few questions about where I’d be living and explaining the company. The guy who was “interviewing” me seemed disinterested in the whole process and was just looking at his second monitor the whole time. At the end of the interview, they asked me to send my portfolio. I was very confused because I thought I gave that to them already? I didn’t get an offer for anything else after that, but it took them forever to send me a rejection email. If they rejected me based off my portfolio, then maybe look at my portfolio first before giving me a “interview” and giving me false hope! It’s a real bummer too because I love Meow Wolf and I’ve gone to their attractions!

So I had this initial call with the recruiter. Then I met virtually with two senior marketing folks. I'm not even sure how they fit into the picture, which was weird because Meow Wolf doesn't actually have a loyalty program, so it felt more like a lifecycle marketing gig. They didn't seem to know what they were looking for. The recruiter kept checking in weekly for five weeks, saying I was a 'top candidate' but no updates. Then, at the six-week mark, they emailed to say they'd just hired the VP this role would report to, but that person wouldn't start for another month. So, we're talking over two months in, and the hiring manager was just coming on board. Even though I wasn't super invested anymore, I said I'd finish up. Never heard back, and the role never reappeared, so who knows what happened.

The interview process took a while to get through, but it went well in the end. It was cool meeting the team, and they had specific recruiters to handle all the scheduling. Mostly, it was about seeing if we'd mesh well and also assessing how you tackle technical challenges.
