I removed myself as a candidate right after the presentation part of the interview. I usually think a presentation for an individual contributor Marketing role is a red flag, but I was hoping for a good experience since they said it was to see my "ability to present and discuss" and to get to know me better. But, it was a bad experience because one person's questions felt unfair and disrespectful. Even though I have 7 years of marketing experience, they asked me basic questions like "explain opportunity influence to me" after I talked about influence results. They also asked after I presented for over 20 minutes, "what was the primary goal of this campaign?" This was despite the presentation title being "renewal nurture", having a goals slide with customer Retention at the top, and me talking in detail about different areas of impact. It seemed like the interviewer wanted to check my basic understanding and catch me out, instead of actually seeing my presentation and discussion style as they proposed. Even though this person wouldn't have been my manager, it was a bad sign for joining the company because we would have needed to work closely together. However, the other two interviewers, including the CMO, were great and people I think I would enjoy working with or learning from. The recruiter was also amazing. EDIT: The team handled this feedback really well - I couldn't have asked for a more open and respectful process after I gave my feedback. The VP of People Operations even offered a phone call and assured me that the feedback would be given to the specific individual constructively. They also suggested ways to fix my candidacy for the role. Even though I turned down the offer, it showed a lot of maturity from the organization and I'm actually a little bummed I had that presentation experience. If the interview process didn't include a presentation, I probably would have accepted an offer if they made one.

Presentation

I made it all the way to the final round, which was a presentation to the CMO and the hiring manager. Honestly, it was the worst interview experience I've ever had. The CMO was obviously texting the hiring manager the whole time, making faces that showed she didn't care about what I was saying, and clearly didn't even get one of my questions. Then she answered in a snide way anyway. If you have a preferred format for the presentation, you should say so instead of saying it should have no format. We take time out of our busy schedules to prepare it, so you could at least be clear about your expectations. Such a waste of time.

The MentorcliQ team is a fantastic group of dedicated, friendly, and welcoming individuals. The recruiter was very upfront and worked hard to schedule interviews around my packed schedule. I always knew what to expect next during the interview process. It’s rare to find such responsive recruiters. The interviews were relaxed, and everyone I spoke with clearly loves their jobs. Even though I didn’t take the job, I’m sure the chosen candidate will be thrilled to join such bright and enthusiastic people at a company that values them.

Behavioral Presentation

It was amazing, taking only 9 days from the initial recruiter chat to getting the offer. The candidate experience was outstanding the whole time. I talked to the recruiter on Tuesday, the hiring manager on Wednesday, a Success Coach on Thursday, a senior Client Partner the next Monday, then had my final round/presentation on Thursday, and got the offer on Friday. Honestly, I can't say anything bad about it. I felt really looked after, got a good feel for the culture and team fit from my peer interviews, and was impressed by how knowledgeable and open the hiring manager was with my questions. It's clear MentorcliQ values its employees, has a great business model, and really cares about authenticity and work-life balance. I can't recommend this company and their culture enough based on my experience as a potential hire. If another company hadn't made an unbelievable offer, I would've accepted theirs immediately.
