First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mendocino Farms.
Hospitality Representative
I had quick, relaxed conversations with the managers who were working. We talked about my past experience, my education, what I like to do, and when I'm available. Everyone was really nice, and they even offered me a drink and a snack while I waited. The General Manager got back to me within a week. Just dress well and be friendly, and you'll get the job.
- Tell me about your interests outside of work or school.
General Manager
I applied for a General Manager position for a virtual kitchen, but after two interviews, they offered me a choice of traditional restaurants. Once I picked one, they spent two weeks setting up another interview, making it sound like I had the job. After some delays, they emailed back saying I wasn't qualified, despite the three interviews. They then suggested I start as a team member to 'grow into' the management role, which I understood as wanting me to do manager duties for minimum wage. The entire process took a month, and they missed their own deadlines multiple times.
- Can you describe your management approach?
- How would you describe your leadership philosophy?
Food Production Worker
I think it was a screen preview they want from you to see how well you would fit in their "work culture". Me being a minority puts me at a disadvantage because of my racial background. Last but not least, this company's motto is selling happiness and great attitude, for that reason, which I highly believe I did not make it for a second interview or given an offer of employment.
- Tell me about yourself?
- Why did you leave your last job?
- Describe yourself.
Talent Manager
I had a really strange interview experience at Mendocino Farms. First, I interviewed with someone who would report to me, which is pretty unusual for talent acquisition roles. Second, the technology platform we used had major issues, which is always a risk. Lastly, the person interviewing me asked about the pay range, which felt like odd information for a potential direct report to need. Despite the weirdness, I do like the product. I feel like I dodged a bullet.
- Tell me about your typical career path.
- Can you give an overview of your work history?
- What is the pay range?
