First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Memphis City Schools.
Teacher
It was pretty relaxed. I first met with the principal, and then I was interviewed by four teachers all at the same time. They asked questions that weren't too difficult. I had to prepare a sample lesson and a lesson plan. They also asked me to bring my resume, which was standard. The interviewers were really nice and answered everything I asked them clearly.
- How would you manage classroom discipline?
Classroom Teacher
The initial interview process for the Classroom Teacher role occurred in June 2005. It was a very professional interaction where the interviewer really dug into my grasp of teaching methods and techniques. Even though I had already submitted my educational philosophy with my application, I was asked to present and explain it directly to the interviewer. Following a contract offer made a week later, I was instructed to attend a job fair hosted by MCS. At this fair, I met with principals who were looking to fill open teaching positions.
- Can you describe your greatest weakness as a teacher and outline the steps you are taking to address it?
Paraprofessional
The whole thing took about a week. After I submitted all the necessary paperwork, I got to pick which school I wanted to work at. Once I picked the school, I could then pick my benefits and set up my work schedule.
- Are you fond of working with kids?
Project Manager
I had an interview with 4 senior managers. They asked me questions one after the other. We started with introductions, and then they asked me about my interest in the job, my background, and my 5-year plan.
