First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MemorialCare.
Registered Nurse
It was a pretty standard interview process, involving a panel of four people: an educator, a charge nurse, the unit manager, and a staff RN. We met over Zoom. They asked five questions. For the most part, the interviewers were friendly. The questions were pretty typical, covering things like handling a difficult patient, introducing yourself, and what you'd do in a situation you weren't familiar with.
- Tell me about yourself.
- Can you describe a difficult patient you've had to deal with?
- What would you do if you encountered a situation you didn't know how to handle?
Contact Center VP
I applied online and a recruiter called me a few days later to talk about the company and my salary expectations. The next week, I had a 1-hour video interview with the hiring manager. It went well, so they invited me for an on-site interview a couple of weeks later. They flew me out the day before since I was coming from out of town. The on-site had 2 panel interviews and a 1:1 with the hiring manager. The first panel was with peers or stakeholders, and the second was a meet-the-team style with my potential subordinates. It seemed like I was up against internal folks for that one, and I got the vibe that they might try to find reasons to vote me down. After that, I was put in an office before meeting with the hiring manager again. One of my potential subordinates gave me a super quick tour, and she seemed like she was also competing for the job. The final meeting with the hiring manager was supposed to be an hour but only lasted 30 minutes, and I could tell I wasn't getting an offer. I went back to my hotel and flew home the next day. After all that time, I never got any feedback or even a 'no thanks' from anyone. Super unprofessional!
- I received an email a week before my on-site interview with instructions to complete a leadership assessment online, which took me an hour, but it would have been helpful to know about it sooner.
Supervisor
Had 3 interviews in total. First was with the department manager over video. Second was with the department manager plus 3 other managers from the department. The final one was with the Department Executive Director. I was upfront about my salary expectations, bringing 13 years of experience. In every interview, they talked about how the department is really struggling with staffing and that I'd have to work extra hours to help the team and gain their trust. A current employee called during an interview and the manager told her it was fine for her to come in even if she couldn't do a full shift. When asked about team accountability, they said it's tough because it's a union. Got a lowball offer about 3 weeks later.
- As a supervisor, how would you feel about working shifts with your team and potentially staying past your scheduled hours because of staffing shortages?
Buyer
It was a Zoom interview with a panel and the director, who wore a hoodie, which was unexpected. The questions were pretty basic. After 8 weeks, they scheduled a second interview. The same director didn't have computer access and asked to do a phone call instead, which lasted only 30 seconds. It felt very unprofessional, especially for a director. I'm actually glad I didn't get an offer because first impressions matter, and I couldn't take a director seriously dressed like that on a Zoom call.
