First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Communications Specialist
I interviewed with three people and they didn't ask anything I wasn't expecting. They got back to me super fast after the interview. Mostly, it was scenario questions, and some about my past work experiences. They also asked department-specific questions, so it's a good idea to research the department beforehand.
- What recommendations do you have for updating the department website?
Postdoctoral Fellow
I had 3 online interviews with professors. Each interview was 30 minutes long and scheduled online. They only informed me about the interview the day before, which made me a bit nervous because I didn't have much time to prepare, but I felt it went well overall.
- Can you discuss your previous experience and the skills you've gained from your PhD programs?
Program Administrator
Had a round table interview with two Med reps and one HR rep. It was a forty-five min interview using Memorial university Human Resource booklet questions. This was in summer 2024. Each interviewer asked a question and then asked what y response would be in a specific senario.
- A student is upset about their waitlist status and demands to know when they will be admitted. How would you respond?
Business Applications Trainer
The interview went really well. The questions they asked were clear and pretty much right on target for the job. There were three people on the interview committee, and they were all focused and acted professionally. The questions they asked were relevant to the role. After the interview, during the reference check, my previous manager at the same university actually said I shouldn't be hired, even though they had already picked me. That reference was really harsh, unprofessional, and seemed designed to mess with my career because of some personal stuff the manager was dealing with. Luckily, I'm far away from that person now and working with some really professional teams at the same university.
