I put in my application on the bny website, and then a recruiter reached out a few weeks later. I had an interview with the department manager and two supervisors; it was about 40 minutes long. The interview felt pretty relaxed. They asked some behavioral questions and also some really specific questions about my past work and why I was interested in this particular job. All in all, the whole thing was professional, gave me a lot of information, and went smoothly.

Behavioral Presentation

It was a really thorough process with phone and in-person interviews with about twelve people. They asked about how much I was willing to travel since it's a requirement to travel at least 50% of the time, sometimes a bit more or less. It's good if you're interested in presenting investment strategies, even if you're not actually managing portfolios. Having decent presentation skills is a plus.

I went through a few interviews with this organization a few months ago and haven't heard back since. I've reached out to HR multiple times, and they always said they'd let me know about the decision but never did. My first and third interviews went well, but the second one was just okay. It seemed like they weren't sure what they were looking for, and the position had been open for a while. I've come to realize I wouldn't want to work there because they don't respect candidates. The office was also messy, and their work style seemed disorganized.

I applied in July and heard back from HR in November because it was a new role and they were waiting for hiring approval. Once HR contacted me, the process moved quickly, taking about two weeks. It started with a standard HR phone interview, followed by a call with a senior trader. To advance, I had to demonstrate genuine interest in both the market and the role. The final stage was an in-person interview involving three one-on-one meetings with the Director and two VPs of trading. This round included some arithmetic and behavioral questions, but no technical ones. It was crucial to be up-to-date on current events and how they relate to the market for each interviewer. I was informed two weeks after the in-person interviews that another candidate with more experience was chosen. Overall, it was a positive experience and I got to meet some great people in the trading group.
