A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. I responded and we had an intro call. I thought the call went well and he said he would put me in touch with the next person sometime the next day. He never responded to me. I sent a thank you note, plus 2 polite check-ins over the next week or so. I never got any response, even to tell me that they weren't moving forward.

I had 5 rounds of virtual interviews and then met the team in-person at their Newark location. Everyone was very nice and easy to talk to. They asked pretty standard questions. Nothing that was challenging. Most questions pertained to my actual position and 1 or 2 about what do my colleagues say about me.

I got an email from HR to set up a meeting with a mid-management writer, which went fine, but they needed a grant writing 'test' where I had to write a free grant for them. My next meeting was with the group supervisor, which also went fine, and she said they would contact me really soon, so I was feeling good about it. This whole thing took about 3 weeks. Then, for the next month, I followed up with HR and the supervisor every 10 days. They kept saying things like 'thanks for your patience, we're waiting for higher-ups to decide' or 'this is a big company, it takes time.' Finally, I was told they 'decided not to fill the position at all and were so sorry.' After doing some digging, I found out they hired someone else (likely a friend of an employee). So, not only did they use me to write a free grant, but they also used me to make it seem like they interviewed other people besides their friend.

I applied online and then got a call from a recruiter who set up an interview with the hiring manager. That interview went well, but the manager mentioned I might be hired for a lower-paying role because I lacked industry experience and described the job as really tough. After that, I got a writing test, which involved two writing tasks for a project proposal. I submitted the assignment on time, but Medscape never responded. This was unprofessional and a waste of my time.
