& Process

The interview process consisted of three interviews: a recruiter chat, a one-on-one with the manager, and then a panel interview. They were all really nice and made the whole thing feel pretty relaxed. The entire thing took about a month and a half.

I had 8 interviews. First with a recruiter, then with the hiring manager, then with a direct report and two other marketing team members, then two product team members. I was then invited to present a past project for 30 minutes to a panel of 8 people with 15 minutes of questions followed by a lunch with the hiring manager. I was told at this lunch that there were two other candidates also going through the panel exercise and following this round, the top two would then move to the next round to meet with the hiring manager's boss and then they would make a decision. Four weeks later, when I heard nothing, I sent a polite short email to the recruiter to just close loop and confirm that they were proceeding with other candidates. It has now been four full business days and I have yet to get a response. I get that things come up and when you are no longer in the running you are not a priority but is a basic level of politeness and decorum in business too much to ask? Have to say, while I enjoyed some of the individuals I met with, between the apparent culture of "decisioning by committee" and obvious inability for swift actions, I think I may have dodged a bullet here.

I got an interview invite from the hiring manager, who also sent an email with the specific time and place. When I got there, I only waited a few minutes before the manager who was interviewing me called me into her office with a smile. The interview had specific questions about the job, but it was really easy because my interviewer was so friendly. After it was over, I felt like it was efficient and nice. I heard back from the hiring manager with a job offer in under two weeks.

Had a phone screen with a recruiter which was good. The next week, I had two in-person interviews. The first was with a peer of the supervisor, and that was fine. The second was with the direct supervisor, and it was a disaster. He didn't know my name, hadn't reviewed my resume, and the interview felt rushed. It seemed like he thought talking to me was a waste of his time. He finished his questions, didn't let me ask any of mine, and then rushed me out. A few days later, the recruiter emailed to say they were going with other candidates, which was fine because I would have declined further interviews based on the hiring manager experience.
