Mediavine Interview Questions
& Process

The hiring process had 4 main steps. First, a recruiter call where they talked about my background and how my skills matched the job description. It was pretty straightforward. Then, I got a take-home test that I had a couple of days to finish. It covered customer interaction, remote work, and a technical part where I had to fix a fake customer's webpage, which involved some basic product research. After that, I had a call with some team members. We discussed my background and how I handle different situations. It felt more like a chat and the team was really welcoming. The final step was a meeting with the VP, focused on my motivation for joining the company and what I could contribute. Overall, a really positive experience with a great company culture.

So I went through 2 rounds of interviews, not counting the HR chat. The first round went pretty smoothly. I chatted with my potential direct manager, and we talked about the job and how we'd work together day-to-day. Thankfully, I got to the second interview, which was with three of my potential colleagues. This one didn't go so well. When I walked in, nobody said anything; they just stared. I started to introduce myself, but they cut me off with a weird question. I then tried to learn more about them, but two of them didn't really know much about SEO or marketing and didn't say much. The third person seemed to know more but was clearly disengaged and even said SEO was a hassle but she liked doing it herself. It felt like they were forced to interview me and didn't want to hire anyone. This was the last interview. The HR person let me know they weren't moving forward with me. I didn't get any specific reasons, which is typical but disappointing given how strange the second interview was. Honestly, even if I got an offer, I wouldn't have taken it after that second interview experience. Mediavine seems like a good company, but the interviewers could be more engaged and knowledgeable about the roles they're hiring for.

The Mediavine interview process moved quickly and was thorough, but also really enjoyable and conversational. It wrapped up in under two weeks. It began with a chat with someone from People Ops, followed by a meeting with the design team. Then, I had to complete a design test. The final interview was with the Chief Brand Officer and Co-Founder and Senior Director of Marketing. I truly liked every conversation I had during the process. I felt like I had a solid grasp of the company, what my role would be, and the company culture. My advice if you're interviewing for a position: just be yourself! Show off your personality, your sense of humor, and, naturally, your skills.

After submitting my application, I completed a brief coding test/questionnaire. It was simpler than some I've done but effectively showed what they were looking for. Then, I had three interviews: one with a senior team member, one with the team and project leads, and one with the Engineering Manager. The order was a bit unusual due to scheduling. Everyone was very friendly and approachable, and they were interested in what I could bring to the role as well as what the company could offer me, which was a great touch.
