Graphic Designer
The review process was a bit strange. I didn't really communicate directly with anyone, and I didn't get to discuss my work with a person. It felt really cold and impersonal.

Web Developer
HR first reached out via email asking for basic info like my current job situation and availability. Then HR set up an in-person meeting with the CEO and production coordinator. During the meeting, they mostly wanted to know about my past projects, my strongest programming languages, and the tools I typically use. They also threw in some specific technical questions.
- Which programming language do you consider your strongest?
Project Manager
I found the Glassdoor reviews really helpful over the years, so when I read the PM review the day before my interview, I was a bit worried. But when I got to Media Genesis, I met with the CEO one-on-one. He got straight to the point and didn't ask any generic HR questions, which I liked. We talked about my resume, and he asked about my experience and skills. I then showed him some examples of websites I'd managed. My role back then needed a really diverse skillset, so I wasn't sure if I was the right fit after that. A couple days later, I had a second interview with the President & Creative Director, a Senior PM, and the Sys Admin. They were really interested in the clients I'd worked with and the software I used daily. Again, no boring HR stuff, just professional and respectful conversation. The President had his laptop open a lot, but he was clearly paying attention. He's super fast at processing info, so don't be put off if the owners type during your interview; they're good at multitasking. I got the job offer a few days later and accepted it; they met my salary expectations without any negotiation. If you interview with MediaG, be ready to show what you know and your value. Don't stress about prepping for standard HR questions. Bringing examples of websites, designs, or writing, whatever the job needs, would be smart. I was asked for writing samples after the first interview, so if you don't have a full portfolio, don't worry, they'll tell you what they need.
- What types of clients have you worked with?
- What software and tools do you use regularly?
Project Manager
I saw the ad for a Project Manager and got contacted by someone who set expectations. I was told I'd meet an owner and a Lead PM. When I went in, I met with the company president and a Lead PM. The president asked a lot about my education, almost like a trick. I accidentally got a graduation year wrong and spent five minutes fixing it. Then the president checked out for five minutes while the Lead asked about software I used. He was friendly and his questions were good. But then the president jumped back in and asked the SAME questions I just answered. Maybe it was another trick, or maybe he just wasn't paying attention. I got invited back, got some salary info from the assistant, and went back even though I was hesitant. This time I met the other owner and another Lead. The owner mostly talked and bragged about old clients. The Lead PM asked good questions about my background and experience. Even though the owners seemed a bit much, I was still considering the job because the department leads were great. Then I checked Glassdoor and online, and saw lots of ex-employees. It made sense after meeting the owners. To top it off, they offered me the job, but for way less money than I wanted. So, no thanks.
