Got contacted by a recruiter online. Had a nice chat with them and the director. Started with a phone screen with the recruiter, then a phone interview with the director. They invited me for an onsite with the director and an executive. The onsite included an Excel test. The executive's feedback was harsh, saying my experience was mostly irrelevant and I lacked experience in a specific area, which was surprising given my resume and earlier interviews. I took time off work and traveled for this, incurring expenses. The executive's bluntness and lack of tact were a letdown and that's what I remember most.

I talked to the hiring manager first on the phone. Then, HR contacted me pretty quickly to set up a full day of interviews at their office. The day included a tour, info about benefits, and a packet about things to do and places to live around Mesa. It all seemed to go well and I thought I'd get an offer, but I think my salary needs and relocation request were too high. HR let me know weeks later they'd be figuring out their needs for the role in the next 60-90 days. A weird thing was that almost everyone I met, who I'd be working with, mentioned how tough the owner, Lynn Tilton, could be to work for.

I applied online and about a month later I got a phone call about an interview. We scheduled it and I gave them my school schedule and some other basic info over the phone. The interview itself was about an hour total, starting with a panel interview with some engineers and then a one-on-one HR interview. I got the offer about 3 weeks after that via a phone call.

The interview was pretty straightforward and went well. My potential supervisor asked me a few things about my background and then handed me some tools to identify. He seemed really friendly and excited. I got a good amount of info and a walkthrough of the place, which helped me figure out if I liked the company and wanted to work there.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • What is your experience with tools, and can you identify the ones I'm showing you?
  • The interviewer asked me to identify some tools, and I was able to do it without issue, unlike a previous candidate who confused a rivet gun with a blowtorch. I thought this was a smart way to figure out who has the right skills for the job.
