I missed my scheduled in-person interview because the manager was visiting from another city, so I had a conference call with the hiring manager and a staff member instead. Both were professional. HR was efficient and called when they said they would. However, HR also kept me waiting for two weeks with excuses like "We're researching compensation rates" and "We're looking at the department structure," before telling me I wouldn't move forward because I didn't have a financial background, which was obvious from my resume. If you're not interested and are just "candidate shopping," be upfront about it instead of making the process longer than it needs to be.

I first connected with a recruiter who presented the opportunity. After that, they forwarded my application to their client, MDF, and an interview was arranged. I then had discussions with two of MDF's QA team leads about the role and my past experience. After they were happy with my background, they extended an offer for the contract position about one to two weeks later.

  • Can you walk me through your previous work experience?
  • Given that your background isn't in finance, what draws you to the financial industry?
