First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McMillen Jacobs Associates.
Professor
The interview process was efficient and timely. It included individual and group stages. It was gracious, thorough, and encouraging, with examples, walk-throughs, and role-playing. There was team building, meeting mentors/buddies, and a continental breakfast was provided. We completed group team exercises which were then evaluated and debriefed. This was duplicated. It was well attended by senior management.

Staff Engineer
As a fresher entering the heavy civil industry, they know you might not have much experience and actually appreciate honesty. The HR team is familiar with hiring F1 students, which is a big plus. The hiring process can take a while because of their business model, so patience is key. The company really values PE licenses; you won't get much recognition without one, so keep that in mind. There's a tendency towards a 'know-it-all' culture rather than a 'learn-it-all' one, which might not be ideal for freshers. However, the pay is better than other leading companies in the industry.
- What are your thoughts on micromanagement?
Geotechnical Engineer
I was called in for an interview at their office. I met with two geotechnical engineers. We talked for about half an hour about the company's work and where it's headed, and they asked me some questions. It felt pretty laid-back and friendly.
- Why are you interested in working with us?
Mechanical Engineer
Had a phone chat, then went into the office for an interview. Met with my potential boss, the company owner, and some engineers. They were more focused on hearing about my past work and seeing how I communicate with others. It felt pretty relaxed, no tough technical problems or made-up scenarios.
