Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McMaster-Carr.
Intern
It was a phone screening that went straight into behavioral questions without any warning. The interviewer seemed really disengaged and was pretty harsh. I got the impression there wouldn't be any follow-up because of how aggressive she was and her lack of interest.
- Tell me about something you're passionate about. Also, describe a recent difficulty you faced and how you dealt with it.
Intern
It was an in-person interview on campus, which was nice considering how many virtual meetings there are these days. It felt like a chat, and they really want to get to know you. But, to get an offer, your answers need to be well-thought-out and really show off your strengths, which is true for any interview.
- Tell me about a situation where you dealt with a team conflict.
Intern
I sent in my resume and showed interest in a few areas of the company. After that, I got an initial behavioral interview with a recruiter. They mainly asked me about my past experiences. The next week, the recruiter let me know that they wouldn't be continuing with my application.
- Can you describe an instance where you utilized data to address a problem?
