First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at McKesson.
Sales
It was pretty simple. They're looking for sales and industry experience, and if you don't have it, it's tough. They really want to see that you've been super successful in previous roles. Having a clinical background is a bonus, but strong success is enough. They're not opposed to hiring people from competitors like Cerner, Eclipsys, or Epic, as long as you have a solid track record. The east coast office is quite formal, so dress to impress. They're charismatic people, but don't hesitate to ask them for feedback on your performance, how they see you, and what your chances are. As a senior VP put it, "Don't rely on connections." Come on your own merit, do great, and you'll get the job.
- What makes you believe you'd excel in this role?
Sales Trainee
Applied online for an open position since I'm an internal resource. A McKesson recruiter called back a few days later and set up an interview with the regional sales manager. I had 4 days to prepare. The interview focused heavily on large territory quotas, position expectations, and duties. I felt very prepared and did great, but the recruiter called back about 48 hours after the interview to say they were going with other candidates who were "more qualified." It's funny, I saw the same position re-posted a week later...
- How do you meet your current goals or quotas?
- What characteristics define a successful salesperson?
Inside Sales Representative
The interview process included a recruiter call and a phone screen. During this, I was asked several questions: Tell me about yourself. What motivates you? How do you calm down an upset customer? Some STAR questions were also presented. Finally, I was asked about my feelings regarding working inside versus outside sales.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- What is it that motivates you?
- Can you describe your approach to calming down an upset customer?
