Assistant Store Manager
The interview process was straightforward and relaxed, depending on your experience. The manager was happy and polite throughout, though this might vary by branch and location. The interview took place in the stock room because the office was in use.
- What makes you a good fit for this position?
Sales Assistant
It was a pretty straightforward process. I was asked some basic questions, like about a difficult situation I faced and how I handled it. Then, I had to complete some online tests. The initial part is easy, but the gas, electric, and post office aspects might be tougher for some people.
- What makes you a good fit for this role?
Manager
Interview was at a shop office, which was quite small, uncomfortable, and dirty. The Area Manager was very professional and made me feel at ease. They asked a lot of open-ended questions, like why I wanted to work for McColls and get into retail. They also asked about my family, my work-life balance, and my 2-year career goals. I then went through some observation and number tests. The manager also shared a lot about the company and their future plans for growth.
- Why do you want to work for McColls?
- Why are you interested in a retail role?
Shift Supervisor
I handed in my CV and spoke with the Manager about my previous experience, and they called me in a week later for an interview. At that time, I wanted to be a sales assistant but was pushed into a supervisor role. I just needed a job, so I reluctantly accepted the role, but the interview just seemed uncomfortable and forced. There were no questions on experience or skills, and practically no training, but luckily I knew what I was doing.
