First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mazzetti.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
I applied online for a Senior Mechanical Engineer position at Mazzetti's Denver office in December 2019. An HR person contacted me to set up a phone interview. I interviewed with an electrical engineer at their Denver office for about 30-40 minutes. It was pretty straightforward. We talked about my professional background. I thought I'd be a good fit based on that and the job description. A week after the interview, I hadn't heard back, so I emailed both the HR person and the electrical engineer to say I was still interested and to ask for a status update. I didn't get a response. About a month later, in January 2020, I emailed them again with the same message. Again, no response. It was clear they were intentionally ghosting me after I'd already had an interview. It's a terrible way to treat people and unprofessional.
- Could you walk me through your previous employment experiences?
Designer
Mazzetti recently changed their interview process, and I had a pretty unique experience. Recruiters came to my college, interviewed students, and then brought their top picks to San Francisco. Once in SF, I got to meet and have lunch with several employees. It was a very casual interview. For young engineers, they prioritize personality over GPA, trusting that anyone with an engineering degree is smart enough. They look for people who can communicate well and would fit the company culture.
- What is your motivation for participating in your chosen extracurricular activities?
Electrical Designer
I applied for the job. We talked on the phone and through email to set up the interview. I went in person and talked with the team lead and project manager for about an hour. They gave me a job offer less than a week later.
- Can you tell me what you know about the MEP industry?
- Do you have experience using Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, or EasyPower?
- Are you certified as FE/EIT?
Talent Acquisition
I had a one-on-one conversation where they asked me about how I would handle specific tasks. They also inquired about my self-motivation and how I approach tasks outside my job description. Additionally, they mentioned a career path that didn't seem to exist.
- Describe how you would complete a challenging task.
