Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mayo Clinic.
Administrative Assistant
I had two behavioral interview panels for the administrative assistant role, which I felt was excessive as one panel should be sufficient. The initial panel was to be considered for the general admin asst. pool, and the subsequent panel was specific to a particular department.
- How do you handle confidential documents?
Administrative Assistant
It was a virtual panel interview. They give you a handout before the interview on how you’re suppose to answer their questions, and they want a specific STAR format.
- Can you describe a time when...?
Administrative Assistant
Getting an interview at Mayo Clinic as an outsider (especially in Rochester) is tough; they really like to promote from within. But whether you're coming from outside or already there, you'll have a behavioral interview. I've done a lot of these interviews myself. There's a required number of interviews we have to conduct. Often, we already knew who we wanted to hire (usually an internal candidate), but we still had to go through the motions of interviewing other people. It felt like a waste of time, but Mayo's rules have to be followed to the letter! They ask situational and behavioral questions.
- Can you describe a situation where a coworker behaved inappropriately at work and how you addressed it?
- What is a personal weakness you recognize?
