I had a one-on-one chat with the VP of Max Borges Agency. She gave me the lowdown on what the internship entails, its duration, and the perks of working at Max Borges. I peppered her with questions to fill up the time.

Technical Presentation

The interview process was a bit of a letdown, honestly. It started with a phone interview with some standard questions. Then came a skills test, which is normal, but this one was rough. It had two projects that took a ton of time. The first involved scoping out a survey, creating sample headlines, and suggesting where they could be published. The second project required analyzing media verticals, then listing 5 outlets and 3 journalists per vertical, along with justifications for why they'd be a good fit. Both projects were time-intensive and required creating visually appealing PowerPoints for a presentation. I spent about 12 hours on them, which felt excessive. The next step was presenting these projects to senior leadership. Things got really weird when they canceled the in-person presentation and interview the evening before, after I'd already taken the morning off. We rescheduled, and I eventually presented. Then, after three weeks of no communication, I had to follow up myself. It felt like they weren't interested but kept me dangling anyway. Overall, it was an unnecessarily inconsiderate process, and I suspect they were just using me for free work.

Behavioral Presentation

First, there's a phone call, then you come in for an in-person interview with a group of senior managers or directors. In that interview, they ask you questions about your past experience, why you're a good fit for the role, and then you have to give a presentation. This presentation involves a writing assignment where you create a press release, a social media plan, and messaging for a potential campaign. It was good that all the managers were in the same room, but it felt a bit like a firing squad.

For this role, they'll want to see your approach to finding people's contact details. They heavily rely on LinkedIn and don't buy databases, so you're expected to find each contact yourself. You'll get a task where you need to find the correct Marketing Director at a top company, get their contact information, and then draft a sample outreach (email or phone call) and explain your follow-up strategy.

Confirmed questions6 questions
  • How would you obtain contact information for a specific individual?
  • Your task is to identify a suitable Marketing Director at a leading company and secure their contact details.
  • Craft a sample email or phone call script detailing your outreach to the Marketing Director.
