I was texted by an assistant to schedule the interview. When I got to the co-working space, the assistant had to meet me and show me where to wait. I waited over 10 minutes past my interview time, even though I arrived early. It felt like a bait-and-switch for a marketing role I didn't apply for. Also, a company that's hiring but doesn't have an office is a red flag.

The recruiter called me during my workday without checking if it was a good time and then proceeded to ask full-on phone interview questions. I was flustered because I was at my current employer and had to find a place to talk semi-privately. She then offered an in-person interview for the next day, with no option for phone/virtual or another day. I mentioned it was strange to expect people to change their plans and take time off work for an interview with less than 24 hours notice. She responded snarkily that it must not be strange because they were fully booked. Good luck filling roles with quality candidates who can accommodate immediate interviews!

The first round was a group meeting where someone from Maverick talked about what they do – helping non-profits gain visibility. There were about 8-10 other people there. The speaker did all the talking. I gathered Maverick doesn't do digital marketing but helps non-profits with their own marketing efforts. This mission interested me, so I was keen for the next round. The second interview was with the owner. I thought I’d learn about EA duties, expecting typical office tasks. Instead, she explained everyone starts at entry-level and works 'in the field,' essentially asking for donations for the non-profits. This wasn't what an EA does and didn't align with the job description. She then detailed the company's rapid promotion structure, presenting it as groundbreaking, though it seemed like a typical sales-focused company setup. She noted I didn't seem enthusiastic, so I mentioned my concern that it sounded more like sales than an EA role. She took offense, saying, 'If you don't care about our cause in saving children's lives, then you likely won't be a good fit for us.' I found this manipulative, as I do care about the cause but don't want to be in sales, especially when I applied for an EA position. I realize I had the wrong idea going in, but the job description was misleading, the interview focused on their business model rather than questions, and the CEO was condescending. I didn't get an offer, and I'm glad, as a bad interview suggests a poor work environment.

The interview process had multiple steps and they were very clear throughout. I really appreciated the conversational vibe, not just a formal, stiff, bullet interview. I want to know who I'll be working with so it was helpful to really see the people. The people who are on the website and social media are the actual employees interviewing you. I loved the diversity and inclusion. I love knowing that I'd be working with people who look like me, not models photo shopped in with stock images. My one on one interview was almost an hour long and out of the places I have interviewed, no one really took the time to listen and get to know me like that.
